Who should attend?
Any person who looks after babies and/or children whether in the workplace, as a volunteer, as a parent or carer.
What will they learn?
- Role of the paediatric first aider
- Minimising the risk of infection
- Dealing with emergencies
- Unconscious casualty
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Principles of using an Automated External Debrillator (AED)
- Choking
- Wounds and bleeding
- Anaphyaxis
- Hypovolaemic shock
- Seizures
- Accident recording and reporting procedures

One day
How is it assessed?
Written paper and continuous assessment by the trainer.
How long does the qualification last?
Three years
Is there progression?
You may wish to proceed to Unit 2 of this course, Managing Paediatric First Aid. This must be undertaken within 10 weeks of completing Unit 1 in order to achieve the full Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid.
